The Sheriff’s Youth Academy is a 40 hour mini law enforcement academy for 30 youth. This program is not only designed to get youth interested in a career in law enforcement, but to promote good citizenship in those who are interested in other careers. We will cover many of the same topics that are taught in real law enforcement academies. In this program, the youth will learn about law enforcement procedures with the use of classroom instruction, hands-on practical exercises and tours of the various facilities that make up the criminal justice system. Their instructors will be actual law enforcement officers with many years of combined practical experience. Instead of focusing on the “how” of law enforcement, this program teaches youth the “why” of law enforcement procedures. We want the students to learn about the vital role that law enforcement plays in the safety of our citizens and to realize that there is more to this profession than what they see on TV and in the movies. |
