December 28, 2001 Case# 2001-7278

Between the hours 8:00 AM and 4:00PM on December 14th 2001 unknown suspect(s) entered a 1979 Pace Arrow Motor Home parked at 7584 West Remington Road in Sundowner West RV Park and removed a Tappan Microwave, Assorted pots and pans, a RV Oven, and three Coleman brand camping chairs. The inside of the Motor Home was completely destroyed by vandalism.  Estimated loss: $9,255.00

December 21, 2001 Salina Police Department Case# 2001-30681

Sometime during the night of November 10, 2001 a garage burglary was committed in the 100 block of E. Minneapolis.  Entry was gained through the garage door and the following items were taken:  6.5 hp Honda Pro Generator; Campbell-Hausfield 4 hp air compressor; Homelite Chainsaw; Black & Decker Skill Saw; Black & Decker Cordless Drill with charger.  Total loss is estimated at $2,410.

December 14, 2001 Salina Police Department Case# 2001-32768

On December 3, 2001 at approximately 8:00 P.M., an Aggravated Robbery was committed at Papa Murphy’s Pizza, 2000 S. 9th.  A robber entered the business and ordered an item to be purchased.  When the clerk opened the cash register, the robber displayed an automatic pistol and took the money from the cash register drawer.  The robber is described as a black male, 17 to 20 years old, 6’- 6’2”, thin build, wearing a dark color puffy coat, blue sweat band around the forehead and a white pick in the back of his hair.

December 7, 2001 Saline County Sheriff’s Office CASE# 2001-6286

Between the hours of 2:30AM and 5:55 PM on October 28th 2001 unknown suspect(s) entered the Wild Wild West Gentleman’s Club located at 1540 West Old 40 Hwy. and removed a tan in color Sentry floor safe.  Estimated loss: $18,000.00

November 30, 2001 Salina Police Department Case# 2001-30688

Sometime during the night of November 10, 2001, two 5’ x 5’ plate glass windows were broken at Renegade Paintball, 911 W. Crawford.  The windows are located in the front of business and each one had an approximately one-foot hole in the center of the glass.  Total loss is estimated at $1,000.

November 23, 2001 Salina Police Department Case# 2001-30408                                            

At approximately 7:00 P.M., November 8, 2001 an Attempted Robbery and Battery occurred in Kenwood Park.  A 15-year-old girl was walking along Bob Flaherty Dr. when she noticed a white male with a dark sweat shirt and ball cap following her.  The girl started running toward the creek area and fell down.  The male caught up to her and started hitting her and demanded that she empty her pockets.  The male discovered that she did not have anything of value so he left the area.  The girl suffered bruises and abrasions in the area of the face.

November 16, 2001 Saline County Sheriff’s Office Case# 2001-6310

Between October 12th 2001 and October 29th 2001 unknown person(s) removed 3 cows and 22 calves from the Smoky Hill Bombing Range located in Southwest Saline County. The cattle taken were mixed breeds. The 3 cows were branded with a “H” or possibly with “86”. The calves had ear tags with owner’s name and address.  Estimated loss: $12,800.00

November 9, 2001 Salina Police Department Case# 2001-30178                                                           

Sometime during the evening of November 5, 2001 three taxicabs were burglarized at the City Cab Company, 912 N. 5th.     The first taxi had a Midland LMR 2-way radio taken.  The second taxi had a Centrodyne 610 Taximeter broken and a Midland 2-way radio stolen.  The third taxi is missing a Centrodyne taximeter and a Midland 2-way radio.  Total loss is estimated at $1,865.


October 19, 2001 Salina Police Department Case# 2001-2783

Between Sunday, October 14 and Tuesday, October 16, 2001, three “Ducane” gas barbecue grills were stolen from residences in the east part of Salina.  All three grills were sitting on a deck in the back yard.  The grills were stolen from the 100 block of S. Presley, 100 block of Eastmoor Drive and the 2700 block of Deborah.  Total loss is estimated at $ 1,885.


October 12, 2001 Salina Police Department Case# 2001-22603

Sometime during the night of August 23, 2001, four Salina Journal vending machines were stolen.  One machine was taken from the east side of Rod’s Total, 1339 N. 9th.  Another was taken from the north side of the Corner Store, 842 N. Santa Fe, and the last two were taken from the north side of Iron Pump, 418 E. Iron.   The vending machines were later found in the county with the coin boxes pried open and the money missing.  Total loss is estimated at $1,950.

October 5, 2001 Saline County Sheriff’s Office Case# 2001-5391

Between the hours of 7:00 PM on September 25th, and 6:30 AM on September 26th, 2001, a John Deere GT 235 series lawn and garden tractor was stolen from Dauer Implement at 144 W. Farrelly Rd. The tractor was loaded into an orange 1978 Ford pickup truck that belonged to Dauer Implement, and driven from the area. The stolen pickup truck was recovered in Harvey County Kansas, the John Deere tractor was not found with the truck. The stolen tractor is John Deere green and yellow color, and is equipped with a 48” mower deck.   Estimated loss: $5100.00

September 28, 2001 Salina Police Department Case# 2001-25549     

Between Friday, September 21and Saturday, September 22, 2001, the Salina Police Department received 11 reports of windows being broken on vehicles.  Most of the damaged vehicles were in the south part of Salina.  It appears that a baseball bat or a similar object struck the windows.  This is second rash of vehicles being damaged in less than a month.  Total loss is estimated at $6,350.

 

September 21, 2001 Salina Police Department Case# 2001-22342                       

Sometime during the night of August 21, 2001 a Pepsi-Cola vending machine was set on fire at the West Cloud Commons, 1510 Beach.    A flammable liquid was poured on the machine and ignited.  The top, back and sides of the machine were burned along with a brown stair railing next to it.  Total loss is estimated at $2,550.

September 14, 2001 Saline County Sheriff’s Office Case# 2001-3685 & 4452

Between July 13th, and August 16th, 2001, vending machines located at the rest area on I-70 near the Solomon exit were broken into on two separate occasions. Snack food, canned soft drinks, and cash were removed from the machines. The vending machines were also heavily damaged, and the coin mechanisms were removed.  Total loss is estimated at $1500.00.

September 7, 2001 Salina Police Department Case# 2001-23432

Between August 31 and September 1, 2001, the Salina Police Department received 10 reports of windows being broken on vehicles.  Most of the damaged vehicles were in the southeast part of Salina.   It appears that a baseball bat or a similar object struck the windows.  Total loss is estimated at $5,125.


August 31, 2001 Salina Police Department Case# 2001-22638

Sometime during the night of August 23, 2001, a boat and trailer were stolen from the parking lot of Long McArthur Ford, 3450 S. 9th.  The stolen boat is a white and teal 1996 Starcraft and it was sitting on a white trailer.  The boat also had a teal color tarp over it and teal and gold pin striping.   Total loss is estimated at $10,000.



August 24, 2001Saline County Sheriff's Office Case# 2001-22346

Between the hours of 11:50 PM on Thursday, May 17th, and 2:00 AM on Friday, May 18th, 2001, unknown suspect(s) entered a 1995 Eagle Talon, which was parked in the parking lot of Rumor’s Nightclub, by forcing the driver’s side window down allowing the door lock to be reached and unlocked.  Once inside the vehicle the following items were stolen, a large gray colored speaker box containing three 10 inch woofer speakers, an Alpine amplifier, Pioneer in dash CD player, a Nokia cellular phone, and a black and gold colored CD case containing 300 music CD’s.  Estimated loss: $3989.00

August 17, 2001 Salina Police Department Case# 2001-21189

Sometime during the night of August 9, 2001, an Arson was committed at Jerry Ivey Park, 2465 Edward.  A nine-foot wooden alligator, sitting on the south side of the park, was set on fire.  Dry grass was stuffed under the alligator and used to ignite the alligator.  Total loss is estimated at $1,000.



August 10, 2001 Salina Police Department Case# 2001-19765

Sometime during the night of July 26, 2001 a Burglary was committed at Coronado School, 518 E. Neal.  Entry was gained by cutting a screen on the south side of the school and opening a window.  Once inside, three rolls of carpet were stolen along with an extensive amount of vandalism.  Bleach and kerosene were poured on new carpet in several rooms; walls, bathroom stalls and mirrors were spray painted and paint was spilled over a linoleum floor.  Total loss is estimated at $25,000.

August 3, 2001 Saline County Sheriff’s Office Case# 2001-3962

Between the hours 7:30 PM on July 29th 2001 and 7:00 AM on July 30th 2001 unknown suspect(s) forced entry into Earthcare Services located at 1777 East Old 40 Hwy and broke into the Pepsi machine and removed the dollar bills from it. Suspect(s) also entered the office area and stole cash from a file cabinet.   Estimated loss: $1,100.00

July 27, 2001 Saline Police Department Case# 2001-17851

Sometime during the night of July 6, 2001 a residential burglary was committed in the 600 block of E. Republic.  Entry was gained by forcing open a rear door of the residence.  Once inside the following items were taken:  1 ¼ carat round cut diamond solitaire ring; Man and a woman’s NASCAR watch; Women’s gold chain necklaces, bracelets and other rings (one of the rings has the inscription (I love you.); Sony DVD player; Television and VCR; and other items.  Total loss is estimated at $2,818.

July 20, 2001 Salina Police Department Case# 2001-17572

At approximately 11:30 P.M., July 4, 2001 an Aggravated Robbery was committed in the 200 block of E. Gold Rd.  A 54-year-old man was sleeping in his vehicle when a Hispanic male with a handgun awakened him.  The male subject pointed the handgun at the victim and demanded that he hand over his property or he would shoot him.  The victim handed over six-quarter karat men’s gold ring, Ruby and three diamond men’s gold ring, a gold piece money clip and a Gateway laptop computer.   Total loss is estimated at $8,310.

July 13, 2001 Salina Police Department CASE # 2001-3201

Between the hours of 1:30pm on June 22nd, 2001, and 3:30pm on June 23rd, 2001, unknown person(s) illegally entered a residence at 3697 Falun Rd. in Saline County Kansas, and took several items. Items taken from the home included a large amount of currency in various denominations, several Silver Certificate bills, a coin collection, a stamp collection, and a large collection of jewelry, which also included some antique pieces of jewelry.   Estimated loss: $5,500.00 dollars.

July 6, 2001 Salina Police Department Case# 2001-15468

Between May 8 and May 9, 2001, a desktop computer was stolen at Hawthorne Elementary School, 715 N. 9th.  The computer was sitting near an office desk when it was stolen.  The computer is described as a black Gateway 2300 series Deluxe Pentium.  Total loss is estimated at $2,050.

June 29, 2001 Salina Police Department Case# 2001-16037

Sometime during the night of June 19, 2001, a “Sizur and Dump Trailer” was stolen from Midwest Siding, 1504 W. State Rd.  The trailer has a red 7’ x 16’ box with a black trailer.   The trailer also has a hydraulic lift for dumping waste materials.  The trailer was parked in the west parking lot of the business when it was stolen.  Total loss is estimated at $6,900.

June 22, 2001 Saline County Sheriff's Office CASE # 2001-3048

On Friday June 15th 2001 at approximately 7:30 PM, a woman riding a red and black bicycle eastbound on Magnolia near Markley road, was struck by a late model 1980’s blue and silver Chrysler New Yorker with a vinyl top. The Chrysler New Yorker struck the bicyclist from behind and continued to go Eastbound on Magnolia Road. The driver was described as a dark complected male, unshaven, and wearing a large floppy rimmed hat.

June 15, 2001 Salina Police Department Case# 2001-15060

Around 6:00 P.M., June 11, 2001, a theft was committed at Colortyme Rental, 1219 B W. Crawford.  The employees at that business had just returned from picking up some property at a residence and placed the items at the back of the business.  The rental property consisted of two computer desks, two computer desk chairs and a Compaq Computer unit consisting of a CPU, monitor and keyboard.  The employees went inside the business to get the paperwork and when they returned outside, the items were missing.  Total loss is estimated at  $1,435.

June 8, 2001 Salina Police Department Case# 2001-13762                                                            

Sometime during the night of May 24, 2001 a black 2001 Chevy Camaro Z-28 was stolen from the lot of Conklin Cars, 2700 S. 9th.  The vehicle has a dark charcoal leather interior and a six speed manual transmission.  Total loss is estimated at $31,000.

June 1, 2001 Saline County Sheriff's Office Case# 2001-1899

Between the hours of 7:00 PM on April 20th and 7:30 AM on April 21st 2001 unknown person(s) removed a 1995 John Deer 535 Round Bailer from the 12000 block of South Muir Road. The bailer is John Deer green and in excellent condition. Estimated loss: $12,500.00

May 25, 2001 Salina Police Department Case# 2001-12190

Between May 12 and May 14, 2001 a red Snapper push mower and a red Toro riding lawn mower were stolen from Rental Service Corporation, 1500 S. Broadway.  The mowers were taken by cutting a hole in a chain link fence around the backside of the business.  Total loss is estimated at $1,888.

May 18, 2001 Salina Police Department Case# 2001-11334

Between May 5, and May 7, 2001 a red 1997 Kawasaki Mule was stolen from Salina Kawasaki, 201 S. Broadway.  The Kawasaki Mule model number is 2510 and has a 620 cc engine. The mule was parked in the south parking lot when it was taken.  Total loss is estimated at $8,500.

May 11, 2001 Saline County Sheriff's Office Case# 2001-2269

On May 10th, 2001, between the hours of 1:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. in the morning, unknown person(s) entered Sandra Sue’s Place, a bar and grill in Gypsum Kansas.  Taken from inside the bar was change from the pool table by prying open the change box, removed change from the jukebox by prying open the change box, took several cartons of Marlboro cigarettes, and the cash register.  Estimated loss is $1,200.00.

May 4, 2001 Salina Police Department Case# 2001-10868

At approximately 8:45 P.M., May 2, 2001 a man walked into Zales Jewelers, 2259 S. 9th and asked the salesperson if he could look at some rings.   As the man was looking at the rings, he requested to try on two rings that were over 1 carat.  The man put the rings on his little fingers and then ran from the store.  The man is described as a dark-skinned Black male, 32-35 years old, 5’9”, thin build with short curly hair, moustache and goatee, driving a red Pontiac Sunbird convertible with a black soft top, gold rims and unknown Oklahoma tags.   Total loss is estimated at $16,940.

April 27, 2001 Salina Police Department Case# 2001-5782

Sometime during the night of March 9, 2001, a driver’s door on a 2000 Dakota Extended Cab truck was damaged at Long McArthur Ford, 340 N. Santa Fe.   The truck was parked in the west parking lot when a concrete block was thrown at the door causing a large dent and scratches.   Total loss is estimated at $1,500.

April 20, 2001 Saline County Sheriff's Office Case# 2001-1641

On April 8, 2001 Unknown persons entered a White 1998 Oldsmobile Achieva while it was parked on I-70 near the Solomon rest area.  Entrance was gained to the vehicle by breaking out the passenger side window.  Taken from the vehicle was a Sony AM/FM Compact Disc player with a detachable face plate.  Estimated loss is $588.00.                                                                                

April 13, 2001 Salina Police Department Case# 2001-7176

Sometime during the night of March 24, 2001, a Coca Cola “Powerade” vending machine was tipped over at South High School, 730 E. Magnolia.  The vending machine was located near the softball diamonds when it was tipped over causing extensive damage.  Total loss is estimated at $1,200.

April 6, 2001 Salina Police Department Case# 2001-6053

Between March 7 and March 9, 2001, a portable radio and charger were stolen from the Salina Animal Shelter, 329 N. 2nd.  The radio was described as a Hand Held Ericsson Panther 500 P and it was sitting in a back room.  Total loss is estimated at $700.

March 30, 2001 Saline County Sheriff's Office Case# 2001-18                                                                                

Between December 29th 2000, and January 2nd 2001, unknown person(s) entered a red Chevrolet Blazer while it was parked at 1361 N. Marymount Rd. A blue steel Dan Wesson .357 magnum revolver with a 4-½ inch barrel and custom grip was taken from inside the center console of the vehicle.   Estimated loss: $500.00 dollars.

March 23, 2001 Salina Police Department Case #2001-5221

 On March 4, 2001, the Salina Police Department received twenty-eight reports of property damage caused by a bb or a pellet gun.  Twenty-six reports involved window damage to vehicles, one to a vehicle door and one to a window on a house.  The damage occurred sometime during Saturday night, March 3rd, along the streets of Ellsworth, Linda Lane, Irene, Bret, Edward, Quincy, Robin Rd and Scott.  Total loss is estimated at $4,850.

March 16, 2001 Saline County Sheriff's Office CASE # 2001-1145

 On March 9th 2001 David Michael Mersch was temporarily released from the Saline County Jail by Court Order to attend his grandmother’s funeral in Oakley Kansas. The Court ordered Mersch released at 7:00 AM on March 9th 2001 and he was to return to the Saline County Jail no later than 9:00 PM on March 9th 2001. Mersch was dropped off in front of the Saline County Jail on March 9th 2001 prior to 9:00 PM by a family member, but walked away from the Jail without contacting Corrections and letting them know he was back. Mersch later made contact with an acquaintance and was taken to Randy’s Dance Club located at 1604 West State Street.   Mersch is wanted for Escape from Custody.

March 9, 2001Saline County Sheriff's Office CASE # 2001-1092

Between February 15th 2001 and March 5th 2001 unknown person(s) entered a residence located at 6601 South Lightville Road and removed two Llama .45 ACP caliber handguns. One of the guns was Nickel finish and the other was blued finish.  Estimated loss: $500.00

March 2, 2001 Salina Police Department Case: 2001-1135                                                                            

During the night of January 11, 2001, a barber pole was stolen from The Razor’s Edge Barber Shop, 1114 E. Crawford. The barber pole has red, white and blue stripes and is inside an 8” – 10” glass tube that is 42” long.  The pole was mounted near the outside front door.  Total loss is estimated at $858.

February 23, 2001 Salina Police Department Case# 2001-1073

Sometime during the month of November 2000, a John Deere Model 170 riding lawn mower was stolen from the residence at 2815 Foxboro.  The riding lawn mower was inside a detached storage shed when it was taken.  Total loss is estimated at $1,000.

February 16, 2001 Saline County Sheriff's Office Case# 2000-6810

On Monday, December 18th, 2000, between the hours 7:45 PM and 9:00 PM unknown person(s) entered a blue 1999 Chevrolet pickup truck that had been left stuck in the ditch near the intersection of Falun and Fairchild roads. The truck was taken and driven east on Falun Rd. and was found the following morning wrecked near Falun Rd., and I-135.  Estimated loss: $20.000.00

February 9,  2001 Salina Police Department  Case: 01-1348, 01-1349, 01-1350, 01-1352

Sometime during the night of January 16, 2001, the following businesses had their front plate glass windows shot with a bb or a pellet gun:  Napa Auto Parts, 1124 W. Crawford,  Sinclair Gas Station, 680 S. Phillips,  Dallas Cleaners, 900 W. Crawford,  Discount Furniture, 817 W. Crawford.  Some of the businesses had multiple windows shot and sustained a large amount of damage.  Total loss is estimated at $5,400.

February 2, 2001 Salina Police Department Case# 2001-1367

Between Friday night, January 16, and Saturday morning, January 17, 2001, several musical instruments and accessories were stolen from the cafeteria and stage area of Sacred Heart High School, 234 E. Cloud.  The instruments consisted of several cymbals, mallets, two egg shakers, a tuba mouthpiece and bits and two cowbells.  Total loss is estimated at $1338.

January 25, 2001 Saline County Sheriff's Office Case# 2001-17

Between the dates of November 23, 2000 and December 24, 2000, unknown person(s) entered a residence located at 3057 S. Ashley Lane, and removed the following items:  One yellow gold anniversary ring containing five diamonds and several smaller diamonds, One yellow gold diamond ring containing three diamonds and One watch with a black colored leather band.   Estimated loss of $2,509.00.

January 19, 2001 Salina Police Department Case# 2001-1404   

At approximately 6:15 P.M., January 16, 2001 a Robbery was committed at the Central Mall parking lot, 2259 S. 9th.  A woman was scraping off her windshield on the north side of the mall near Dillard's when a male subject confronted her.  The male grabbed the woman’s purse and ran northeast bound across the open field.  The male is described as 5’8”, 130, wearing a navy blue or dark colored hooded sweatshirt and khaki pants.  Total loss is estimated at $357.

January 12, 2001 Salina Police Department Case#’s 2001-477, 2001-519,  2001-520, 2001-671, 2001-688, 2001-715.

Sometime during the night of January 6, 2001, six local businesses had their plate glass windows or doors broken by what appears to be either bb or pellet gun.  The businesses include:  Total Beauty, 2144 Planet Ave.,  APAC Customer Services, 1808 S. 9th, Sherwin Williams Company, 2134 Planet Avenue, Brooks Liquor Store, 1845 S. 9th, Big Lots, 1840 S. 9th, Jayhawk Automotive Supply, 2145 S. 9th .  Total loss is estimated at $2,365.

January 5, 2001 Saline County Sheriff's Office Case# 2000-6137

Between November 1st and November 14th 2000 unknown person(s) entered a new house under construction located at 12045 South Hohneck Road and removed a Hitachi 10” Compound Miter saw green in color. The model number on the saw is C10FCD.  Estimated loss: $400.00
