Between the hours of 5:00 p.m. on December 20th, 1998 and 9:30 a.m. on December 21st, 1998 unknown person removed a Bobcat Model 440B front end loader from a grain bin that had been converted into a storage shed at 213 East North Street in Smolan, Kansas. The Bobcat loader is white, orange, and black in color, and is the smaller model of the Bobcat loaders. Estimated loss is $8,500.
December 25, 1998 Salina Police Department Case # 98-29642
Between 10:00 p.m., November 16, and 5:45 a.m., November 17, 1998 a burglary was committed at the Wash House, 924 North Santa Fe Avenue. Entry was gained by breaking the glass door at the front of the business. Once inside, a Standard bill changer was pried on causing $2,000 damage. Nothing else was disturbed at the business. Total damage is estimated at $2,300.
December 18, 1998 Salina Police Department Case # 98-28610
Between 11:30 p.m., November 4, and 4:00 a.m., November 5, 1998 a burglary was committed at Prime Time, 100 N. Broadway. Entry was gained by breaking a glass door on the south side of the business. Once inside, a safe containing cash and checks was taken. Also missing are 40 cartons of cigarettes, calling cards and cigarettes lighters. Total loss is estimated at $6,078.
December 11, 1998 Saline County Sheriff's Office Case # 98-5391
Between the hours of 5:00 p.m. on November 21, 1998 and 9:30 a.m. on November 22, 1998 unknown persons entered Gypsum Valley Sporting Clays located at 7702 south Niles Road, and removed a Mossberg 12 gauge shotgun, Winchester 12 gauge shotgun, Remington 12 gauge shotgun, Ruger Red Label 20 gauge shotgun, Remington 20 gauge shotgun and a Winchester 30-30 rifle. Also taken was a TV, petty cash and candy bars. Loss is estimated at $2,600.
December 4, 1998 Saline County Sheriff's Office Case # 98- 5481
Between noon, November 26, and 7:20 a.m., November 27, 1998 someone broke into Salina Trailer Service, 1309 West Diamond Drive. Taken were three Hulk riveters, a Blue Point angle grinder, a Walker 20-ton jack, two Snap-On tool boxes with tools and other pneumatic and power tools. Loss is estimated at $25,000.
November 27, 1998 Salina Police Department Case # 98-29919
Between 6:00 a.m., November 19, and 5:40 a.m., November 20, 1998 a burglary was committed at A. G. Edwards and Sons, 118 West Iron Avenue. Entry was gained by breaking the front door glass of the business. Once inside, the following items were taken: 1. Hewlett Packard computer which consisted of the monitor, keyboard, mouse and hard drive. 2. Panasonic TV/VCR combination. Total loss and damage is estimated at $1,300.
November 20, 1998 Saline County Sheriff's Office Case # 98-5205
Between the hours of 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday November 11, 1998, and 10:00 a.m. Thursday November 12, 1998, unknown person or persons enter a storage area located at 2001 West Grand Avenue. Entry was gained by cutting a padlock off a gate. Removed from the property was a red, 18 foot AA flatbed trailer and a yellow Allis Chalmer Model 76 Fork Lift. Loss is estimated at $13,516.
November 13, 1998 Salina Police Department Case # 98-28774
Sometime during Friday night, November 6, and again on Saturday night, November 7, 1998, eleven vehicles had their door windows shattered by a bb or pellet gun. The vehicles were parked along the streets of La Shelle Lane, Shalimar, Ray, Edwards, Quincy, Kensington and Nottingham. Total damage is estimated at $1,250.
November 6, 1998 Salina Police Department Case # 98-28490
Between 10:00 p.m., October 30, 1998 and 2:00 p.m., October 31, 1998 a 6 horse power Honda power washer was stolen from Sonic Drive Inn, 2615 Market Place. The power washer was located in a fenced-in lot at the business. Total loss is estimated at $870.00.
November 2, 1998 Saline County Sheriff's Office Case # 98-4932
Between the hours of 12:00 p.m. on October 18, 1998 and 1:00 p.m. on October 27, 1998 unknown person(s) entered a storage shed located at 1317 North Tressin Road, and removed antique milk cans, cream cans, feed tubs, eight halogen lights, ten tubes of lithium grease, fire extinguisher, and a small battery charger. Also taken was a large amount of frozen meat. Estimated loss is $1300.00.
October 23, 1998 Salina Police Department Case # 98-27029
Between 4:00 p.m., October 18, and 7:00 a.m., October 19, 1998 two white 1991 Jeep Wrangler doors were take from Absolute Truck, 2410 North 9th Street. The Jeep Wrangler was parked in front of the business when the doors were taken off the vehicle. The doors have a tan vinyl interior. Total loss is estimated at $800.
October 9, 1998 Saline County Sheriff's Office Case # 98-4579
Between the hours of 6:00 p.m. on October 5, 1998 and 1:10 a.m. on October 6 1998 unknown persons entered on to the property of Dauer Implement located at 144 West Farrelly Road and took a Red 1997 Nissan X cab pick-up. The pick-up was found abandoned on Markley Road at the east edge of the old airport runway. The chrome mag spoke wheels were taken from the pick-up. Estimated loss is $1,100.
October 2, 1998 Salina Police Department Case # 98-21478
Between 6:00 p.m., August 17, 1998 and 10:00 a.m., August 20, 1998 a racing bike was stolen form the back yard of 2055 Edward. The bike is described as a men's black and yellow Trek 8900 series, 26" mountain bike. The bike has 24 speeds and a green racing saddle. Total loss is estimated at $3,000.
September 25 1998 Salina Police Department Case # 98-23912 CLEARED
FIVE SUSPECTS HAVE BEEN ARRESTED
The Salina Police Department is investigation a Homicide which occurred sometime during the night on Monday, September 14, 1998. On Wednesday, September 16, 1998 a concerned citizen notified the police department about not seeing his neighbor, Jarold Wayne Johnson, 52, for the past couple of days. Upon arrival of officers, two Salina Journal newspapers were found on Mr. Johnson's porch and him lying deceased on the living room floor. An autopsy revealed Mr. Johnson died of blunt force trauma to the head.

Between the hours of 6:00 p.m. on August 21, 1998 and 7:30 a.m. on August 22, 1998 unknown person(s) entered onto the property of Straub International located at 3637 South 9th Street, and removed a 3 point tractor hitch, and miscellaneous parts from a Bush Hog Mower Deck. Parts taken off the mower deck were an A-Frame, chain, power take off shaft, and rear guide wheel. Estimated loss is $1400.00.
September 11, 1998 Salina Police Department Case # 98-20663
At approximately 1:42 a.m., August 12, 1998, an aggravated Arson was committed at 1925 Dover Drive. A flammable liquid had been poured along the back side of the residence and then set on fire while three people were inside sleeping. The fire spread along the siding of the residence destroying a window air conditioner. Total damage is estimated at $500.
September 4, 1998 Salina Police Department Case # 98-19599
Between 9:00 a.m., July 31, and 5:00 p.m., August 1, 1998 a residential burglary was committed in the 2000 block of Roach. Entry was gained by prying open an east walk-in door. Once inside, the following items were taken: Colt .45 caliber semi automatic hand gun; Ruger P85 9mm handgun; Browning Buck Mark 22 caliber semi automatic handgun; Smith and Wesson .38 caliber handgun with 4" barrel; $360 in cash; Costume jewelry; a 1948 Barnard High class ring and other items. Total loss is estimated at $1,925.
August 28, 1998 Saline County Sheriff's Office Case # 98-3758
Between the hours of 9:15 p.m. and 11:50 p.m. on August 16, 1998 unknown persons(s) entered the Elks Country Club located at 1800 South Marymount Road, and removed numerous Calloway drivers and woods, one set of Ping irons, a Ping 25th Anniversary Putter, Zebra Putter, and other golfing equipment such as golf bags, balls, head covers, 12 Titleist hats, and currency. Estimated loss is $25,000.
August 21, 1998 Salina Police Department Case # 98-19612
Between 6:00 p.m., August 1, and 2:42 p.m. August 2, 1998, five vehicle windshields were shattered while parked on the lot of Jim's Auto Sales, 1605 West Crawford. Each windshield appeared to have been struck with a baseball bat or similar object. The vehicles damaged were a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix, 1991 Plymouth Acclaim, 1985 Dodge Daytona, 1984 Chevy Citation and a 1994 Ford Ranger. Total damage is estimated at $1,500.
August 14, 1998 Salina Police Department Case # 98-19392
Between 3:00 p.m., July 30, and 7:00 a.m., July 31, 1998 the Saline County War Memorial and other items were vandalized in Sunset Park, 700 Sunset Drive. The damage consist of four wooden rails that were removed from a wooden fence by the memorial and were used to break the globes off four light poles. Profane words were scratched into the bronze plague on the memorial. Two wooden post were pushed through the vents of a bathroom located on the southwest corner of the park and another post was found lying in the men's bathroom. A park bench was also thrown in a pond by the fountain on the west side of the park. Total damage is estimated at $865.
August 10, 1998 Saline County Sheriff's Office Case # 98-3484 CLEARED
Between the hours of 10:00 p.m. on July 30th, 1998, and 7:00 a.m. on July 31st, 1998 unknown person(s) entered the business office of Frisbie Construction Company located at 7793 East K-4 Highway, and removed seven lap top computers, two desk top computers, two digital camera's, two Franklin Mint Collector knives, a TV/VCR, and currency. Estimated loss and damage is $27,600.
July 31, 1998 Salina Police Department Case # 98-18075
Between 10:40 p.m., July 17, and 7:15 a.m., July 18, 1998 a residential burglary was committed at 501 North 12th. Entry was gained by forcing open a side door of the residence. Once inside, the following items were stolen: Compaq Presario Computer and keyboard; Roland VS880 expanded hard disk recorder; MPC 2000 Sampler/Sequencer; Yamaha Keyboard; Roland S10 Keyboard; Panasonic receiver and several other pieces of stereo equipment. Total loss and damage is estimated at $9,140.
July 24, 1998 Salina Police Department
Between 4:00 p.m., July 16, and 5:15 a.m., July 17, 1998, a white 1994 bobcat with model number 753lbase was stolen from a construction site at 2601 E. Crawford. The bobcat, owned by Ry Co Incorporated, was parked about 50 yards north of Crawford behind a building. Total loss is estimated at $17,000.00.
July 17, 1998 Saline County Sheriff's Office Case # 98-2865
Between the hours of 3:30 p.m. on June 23, 1998 and 7:00a.m. on June 24, 1998 unknown persons(s) entered a new home construction site located at 4300 North Ohio. Once inside suspect(s) removed a yellow dual tank Bostich Air Compressor, an unknown brand blue in color dual tank air compressor, Mikita 10" miter saw, and a Dewalt circular saw. Suspects also used a claw hammer, and damaged several sections of copper pipe that was already installed in the home. Estimated loss: $3500.00.

Between 6:00 P.M. June 4, 1998 and 3:30 P.M. June 18, 1998 someone broke a garage window in the building at 608 Francis and took a 12-inch Action brand black and white television, a brown, 2 1/2 foot Coleman refrigerator, a 9-inch black and white Emerson brand television with videocassette recorder, a blue Makita grinder, a clack Craftsman buffer, a three-fourths-inch Snap On torque wrench and several Chicago brand pneumatic impact tools. The loss and damage is estimated at $3,070.
July 2, 1998 Salina Police Department Department, Case #98-12154
Between 6:00 P.M., May 16, and 10:00 A.M., May 17, 1998 a business burglary was committed at Pro Lube, 2365 South 9th Street. Entry was gained by breaking a south door window. Once inside the business, the time clock, fax machine and paper files were thrown off a desk onto the floor. Two drawers to the desk were pried open and a green Bennington State Bag containing cash and checks stolen. Total loss and damage is estimated at $1,450.
June 26, 1998 Saline County Sheriff's Office Case #98-2779
Between the hours of 7:30 P.M., June 18th, 1998 and 9:00 A.M. June 19th, 1998 unknown person(s) cut the chain off a storage shed located at 1500 West Old 40 Highway, and removed a 1971 Harley Davidson motorcycle from the shed. The motorcycle is Turquoise and Metallic Blue in color, and described as being in rough shape. The Motorcycle was rode away from the shed. Estimated loss is $8,000.
June 19, 1998 Salina Police Department Case 98-10570
Between 9:30 P.M., April 30, and 8:45 A.M., May 1, 1998 a business burglary was committed at the Salina Labor Building, 2055 South Ohio Street. Entry was gained by breaking a window on the east side of the building. Once inside, a total of seven doors to various offices were forced open causing extensive damage. Desk drawers were found open and other items were moved, however, nothing was found missing. Total damage is estimated at $1,640.
June 12, 1998 Salina Police Department Case 98-8894
Between 8:30 P.M., April 12, and 8:00 A.M., April 13, 1998 a burglary was committed at a South High School storage shed, 730 East Magnolia Road. Entry was gained by prying open a door, and once inside, two cases of "Penn" tennis balls and a set of "Prince" and "Wilson" tennis rackets were stolen. Also, the nylon strings holding a tennis court net were cut. Total loss is estimated at $615.
May 29, 1998 Salina Police Department Case 98-11525
Between 12:00 P.M., May 9, and 6:20 A.M., May 11, 1998 a burglary was committed at ADM Milling, 310 E. Ash. Entry was gained by forcing open a door on the east side of the business. Once inside, two General Electric communication radios with Model number KPC-300 were stolen along with the chargers. Total loss is estimated at $1,800.
May 22, 1998 Salina Police Department Case 98-12128
Between 2:0 A.M. and 2:30 A.M., May 17, 1998 a rape occurred in the 100 block of North Kansas. A 31 year old female was riding her bicycle when she was knocked down and taken to the curb area where she was raped. The female suffered a separated shoulder and abrasions. The suspect is described as a W/M, 30-40 years of age, 5'10" - 6'0" tall, brown hair and possibly wearing a ball cap, dark shirt and blue jeans. The suspect left the area riding an unknown type bicycle.

On May 6, 1998 between the hours of 9:30 A.M. and 6:30 P.M. unknown person(s) forcibly entered the residence located at 2573 West Stimmel Road and removed a diamond ring, miscellaneous jewelry and two books of blank check blanks. Estimated loss is $400.00.
May 8, 1998 Salina Police Department Case 98-8186
Between 7:00 P.M., April 4, and 4:00 P.M., April 5, 1998, a residential burglary was committed in the 100 block of Millview. Entry was gained by prying open the back door of the residence. Once inside, the following items were taken. Twelve collector sets of Franklin Mint knives; Ostrich boots; $700 in cash; Tommy Armour 745 golf clubs, 1-9 Irons, Sand Wedge, Putter and golf bag; Sony Hi-Fi 4 head VCR; Harley Davidson Collector Telephone of a red motorcycle; Pioneer Turntable and CD player; 176 compact discs. Total loss and damage is estimated at $6,458.
May 1, 1998 Salina Police Department Case # 98-8511, 98-9079, 98-9082
Between April 8, and April 9, 1998, three construction companies suffered large losses of power tools that were stolen from the new Hampton Inn Motel currently being built at 401 West Schilling Road. Two of the companies, Bamford Fire Sprinkler and Standard Mechanical Company had their tool boxes forced open and heavy duty power tools were stolen. The third company, McMasters Construction, had their 20' box type trailer stolen from the site which also contained several power tools. Between April 14, and April 15, 1998, two other construction companies had their on-site trailers forced open and their power tools stolen. These thefts occurred at a Cobb Construction site, 2731 Argonne and a Ry-Co Incorporated construction site at 301 Estates. Total loss and damage is estimated at $27,304.
April 24, 1997 Saline County Sheriff's Office Case # 98-1725
Between the hours of 12:00 P.M. on April 1, 1998 and 6:00 P.M. on April 14, 1998, unknown persons(s) entered the property located at 2600 South Burma Road and removed four implement tires and rims from a green Baker spring tooth and two tires and rims off a red Sunflower field cultivator and two combine header end covers. Estimated loss is $950.
April 17, 1998 Salina Police Department Case # 98-8883
Between 1:00 P.M., April 13, and 7:30 A.M., April 14, 1998, sixteen vehicles had their windows shot out with a bb or pellet gun. Most of the damaged vehicles were parked in the southwest part of Salina along the street. Some of the streets include, Andrew, Maple, Willis, Garden, Harold, Talley and Yale. Total damage is estimated at over $2,000.
April 10, 1998 Salina Police Department Case # 98-8363
Between 9:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M., April 5, 1998 a vehicle burglary occurred in the parking lot of Kenwood Hall, 730 Bob Flaherty Drive. A gray 1992 Chevy Blazer was entered and two 8 mm rifles were taken. The rifles were a Styler 98 with "SWT" on the butt of the rifle and a German GEW 98. Also Taken were two leather rifle cases and a box of 8 mm ammunition. Total loss is estimated at $1,550.
April 6, 1998 Saline County Sheriff's Office Case # 98-1365
Between the hours of 10:00 P.M. on March 23, 1998 and 6:30 A.M. on March 24, 1998 unknown person or persons entered the Elks Country Club located at 1807 South Marymount Road. While on the property they entered the golf cart storage area and removed one maroon colored "Club Car" electric golf cart. The cart was taken to the area of North Street and Holmes Road where it was ran into a tree and severely damaged. Estimated loss is $3,500.00.
March 27, 1998 Saline Police Department Case # 98-4105
Between 10:30 P.M., February 17, and 7:35 A.M., February 18, 1998 a business burglary was committed at Godfather's Pizza, 600 S. Broadway. Entry was gained by forcing open the back door. Once inside, a tan Sentry combination floor safe containing approximately $1,218 in cash and checks were stolen. Total loss is estimated at $2,118.
March 16, 1998 Saline County Sheriff's Office Case # 98-1197
Between the hours of 8:00 A.M. on February 27, 1993 and 100:00 A.M. on March 13th, 1998 unknown person or persons entered a storage shed located at 1100 West Grand Street #D, and removed a Chevrolet 427 tall block truck engine, and a Chevrolet 366 truck engine. Estimated loss is $1,310.
March 6, 1998 Salina Police Department Case # 98-3760
Between 11:20 P.M., February 13, and 12:45 A.M., February 14, 1998 a shooting occurred at the occupied residence of 1307 Pawnee using a small caliber firearm. Several rounds were fired striking a 97 Dodge Neon, 95 Toyota Avalon, 96 Toyota Rav-4 and the front door of the residence. No one was injured at the residence. Total damage is estimated at $1,452.
February 27, 1998 Salina Police Department Case # 98-3521
Between 6:00 P.M., February 6, and 8:00 A.M., February 11, 1998, a shed burglary was committed behind Precision Auto, 540 North 7th Street. Entry was gained by removing the padlock on the shed. Once inside, a black frame Yamaha Go-Cart was taken. The Go-Cart has a yellow, black and white fairing and an aluminum rear wing. Total loss is estimated at $1,210.
February 20, 1998 Saline County Sheriff's Office Case # 98-748 CLEARED
Between the hours of 8:30 P.M. on February 17, 1998 and 7:00 A.M. on February 19, 1998 unknown person(s) entered the Assaria Hardware Store located at 104West Main Street in Assaria, Kansas and removed a portable radio belonging to the rural fire department, tools, seven cartons of cigarettes, and five barrels of assorted chewing tobacco. Estimated loss is $2,434.
February 13, 1998 Salina Police Department
Between 9:00 P.M. February 6, 1998 and 5:00 A.M. on February 7, 1998 unknown person(s) stole a dark blue truck, with the keys inside, was taken form the 500 block of Franklin Street. Authorities located the truck February 8, wrecked against a tree in Indian Rock Park. apparently it had been left in neutral and rolled down the west side of the park, striking the tree. Damage to the truck was estimated at $4,000.
February 6, 1998 Salina Police Department Case 98-2270
On January 28, 1998 at 1:00 A.M., an Aggravated Robbery was committed at the Best Western Heart of America Inn, 632 Westport Blvd. A Hispanic male, wearing a gray hooded jacket and khaki baggy pants, walked into the business displaying a pistol and demanded money from the register. The clerk handed over approximately $465 in cash. The Hispanic male is described as being between 5'4"-5'6 ", and medium build. A dark colored small to medium size car with a broken left tail light was also seen leaving the area shortly after the robbery.
January 29, 1998 Saline County Sheriff's Office Case 98-283 CLEARED
Between the hours of 6:30 P.M. on January 16th 1998 and 8:00 A.M. on January 20th 1998, unknown person(s) cut the chain link fence belonging to Miller Tree Service located at 550 North Marymount Road, and removed two Stihl Chain saws, two Exide Mega Cell truck batteries, a Hydraulic Hose Crimper, an assortment of hand tools and 75 feet of rope from two different trucks parked on th lot. A 5th wheel RV trailer was damaged along with a boat tarp. Estimated loss is $2,760.
January 23, 1998 Salina Police Department Case 97-36658
Between 10:30 P.M., December 23, and 8:40 A.M., December 24, 1997 a burglary was committed at the VFW Post 1432, 1108 West Crawford. Entry was gained by shattering the rear glass door to the business. Another glass door leading into the building was also shattered. Once inside, several doors had been pried open and a cash register and a Keno machine were found lying on the floor destroyed. Nothing was taken from the business. Total damage is estimated at $1,820.
January 16, 1998 Salina Police Department Case 97-36109 CLEARED
At 3:10 P.M., December 18, 1997 an Aggravated Battery was committed at the Central High School Parking lot, 650 E. Crawford. A Shawn Hutchinson was in the parking lot when he was confronted by a Sonny Mullen. An argument ensued and Sonny struck Shawn on the head with a baseball bat. Shawn was treated at the Salina Regional Health Center and received five stitches to close the would. Sonny Mullen is described as a white male, 20 years old, 6' 1", 225 pounds, bleach blond hair and brown eyes.

Between 7:30 P.M., November 13, 1997 and 8:00 A.M. November 14, 1997 unknown persons removed four 3rd arm link off the three point quick coupler of four new John Deer tractors at Dauer Implement located at 144 West Farrelly Road. Loss is estimated at $2000.00.
January 2, 1998 Salina Police Department
At 9:48 P.M., December 19, 1997 a Strong Arm Robbery was committed at Husselman's Liquor Store, 915 West Crawford. The suspect described as a black male, 24-30 years of age, 5'11", medium build, 150 pounds, wearing a black t-shirt, black baggy pants and a blue t-shirt over his face, walked in the store and demanded the clerks to lie on the floor. The suspect then had one of the clerks get back up and remove the money from the cash register. The suspect took the money from the clerk and left on foot in an unknown direction. Total loss is estimated at $295.00.
