What law enforcement positions are available with the Saline County Sheriff's Office?

The entry-level positions are Patrol Officer, Corrections Officer, and Juvenile Corrections Officer.

What are the qualifications for the entry-level positions?

The positions require a high school diploma or the equivalent, minimum age of 21, no felony convictions and a valid drivers license.

What additional qualifications are desirable?

A steady employment history is desirable. Of course, for college students this may consist of part-time and/or summer jobs. Formal training in criminal justice administration or experience as a Reserve Officer is beneficial.

Applications are only accepted when there is an opening. What is the selection process?

To ensure that the best candidates are hired for the positions, the selection process is fairly extensive. An applicant may be screened out at any step. The steps are:

    1. Background investigation and records check.
    2. An entry-level police/corrections test.
    3. Board interview.
    4. An interview with the Sheriff.
    5. Additional written testing, including psychological screening.
    6. A physical examination, including a drug screen.

Applicants can be screened out at any step of the selection process.
